Senior Savannah Athy-Sedbrook is a fourth-year reporter for The Oriole. She can often be found running around during ace to complete stories, as well as living life behind a camera. She plans to compete at the Regional and State Journalism contest for the fourth time and wants to challenge herself with new categories. Along with newspaper, Athy-Sedbrook is Captain of the Color Guard, second-year member of Friends of Freshman, and part of National Honor Society. When she graduates, she hopes to attend Missouri State University and become a graphic designer for a magazine.

The act of mass canceling, or cancel culture, occurs in numerous ways in society today including social media. Especially lately, it became a form of shame and a way to isolate others from society. “If it’s something dumb going across the internet that a teenager did, I don’t think that’s a reason to be canceled,” senior Tiffany Hilton said. “But if someone’s openly being racist and hateful and doing things on purpose, it’s good for society to be like ‘hey, you need to take a step back, that wasn’t good.’”

Six wrestlers placed at the 2021 state tournament in Salina Feb. 27. The wrestlers worked to qualify and place at state since November when the season started. They worked out in the weight room, drilled and ate healthily. “We build up to the middle and then we try to increase our intensity to peak at the end,” wrestling coach Brandon Terry said. “We cut down our workload towards the end of the year and try to increase our intensity, and hopefully, we peak at the state tournament series.”

Wichita broke the record for the coldest high temperature in February since 1936 reaching a low of -4 on Valentine’s Day, according to Jason Tidd from The Wichita Eagle. The new record is -9 as of 7 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16. Temperatures have not been above freezing since Feb. 6.

The Elf on the Shelf tradition started in 2005, started by stay-at-home-mother, Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell.
