The girls soccer team started the season strong and continues to improve with each game. Players worked in practice to build better teamwork on the field. The mix of experienced players and new athletes creates a positive start.
“We have a lot of players stepping up, and I feel like it is going to be a good season,” senior Lindsay Houghtaling said.
Returning players set goals to build off past success. Players are focused on competing at a higher level and improving throughout the season. The team has stayed motivated early on.
“I want to win regionals again like we did my sophomore year,” Houghtaling said.
The team includes a combination of upperclassmen leadership and younger players gaining experience. This balance helps the team continue to grow and adjust. Players focus on supporting each other in games and practices.
“I feel like my performances reflects the team, and we are all doing really well this year,” junior Briar Licklider said.
Team chemistry is an important part of the season so far. Players work on building connections and improving communication. This helps the team perform better overall.
“We are doing pretty good so far,” sophomore Kinley Moore said.
Several players stepped into bigger roles and made an impact. Players have talked about sophomore Brynn Carey stepping up and doing a lot this year, whether it is helping someone else or herself during soccer practice.
“Brynn Carey has stepped up really well and is a strong leader,” Houghtaling said.
Younger players have adjusted to varsity while continuing to gain confidence. Support from teammates and coaches helped them feel more comfortable. The environment supports new players.
“I am always a little nervous before games, but the girls are super encouraging,” freshman Edyn Mettling said.
New players also enjoy being part of the team and building relationships. Team bonding and shared experiences have helped strengthen connections. This has made the season more enjoyable.
“It is a lot of fun, no matter how good you are, and everyone is welcome,” freshman Ruby Dever said.
Players also focus on improving individually while contributing to the team. The team continues to push themselves to get better each game. The season is a learning experience for newer athletes.
“I think I am doing pretty good, but I can always do better,” freshman Keira Ware said.
As the season continues, players remain focused on improving and staying confident. The team is preparing for tougher competition ahead. Overall, players are excited about what is next.
“I feel confident going into the rest of the season,” Houghtaling said.
