The assistant principal and principal submitted resignations in February, accepting new positions at different schools.
Assistant principal Kelly Sayahnejad, new to the Augusta District, accepted the role as lead principal for Clearwater Middle School.
“I was the assistant principal for the previous three years before coming here, so it was appealing to me to go check it out,” Sayhnejad said.
Even though Sayahnejad is familiar with Clearwater Middle School, the decision to leave was still difficult.
“It wasn’t an easy decision, even knowing all the pieces, just because Augusta High School has been great for me with great kids and great staff,” Sayahnejad said.
Principal TJ Meyer planned to be interactive within the school; however, the role of principal came with more.
“I envisioned coming into this with supporting everyone and being in classrooms, but there’s so much more,” Meyer said. “I feel like I am constantly in the office; this isn’t why I got an education.”
In the spring of 2025, a mentor reached out to Meyer about a job opportunity, but Meyer had already accepted the AHS principal position. The job offer reopened several weeks ago.
“It was a long process of evaluating the pros and cons, but ultimately I had to look at what’s best, not only me, but my family, so I made the hard decision,” Meyer said.
Meyer accepted the position of Athletic Director at Wichita Collegiate and plans to continue supporting teachers and coaches.
“Augusta is a special place with good things to offer, a lot of great families, great kids,” Meyer said. “I am excited and hopeful for the future of Augusta.”
