“Hey, can we pie you in the face?”
This question, asked by senior Kaz Adams, convinced English teacher Kristina Smeltzer to join an Educaters Rising, pie-in-the-face fundraiser.
“I’ve made it this long without it so I guess it’s my turn,” Smeltzer said.
Smeltzer hopes to avoid a certain kind of pie.
“Not chocolate,” Smeltzer said. “I don’t like chocolate.”
Assistant principal Kelly Sayhnejad disagrees.
“Well, my favorite is chocolate, or coconut,” Sayhnejad said.
Among Smeltzer and Sayhnejad, PE teacher Dawson Elliott and history teacher Taylor Cusick are candidates to receive a pie.
“I let the kids decide,” Springs said. “Come up with a list and just go ask people.”
This pie-in-the-face fundraiser has many benefits.
“They are great for morale,” Smeltzer said.
While great for school spirit, this pie is not just for fun.
“I always think it’s important that if we have an opportunity to give back, we give back,” Sayhnejad said. “It allows us to realise there is something bigger than us out there.”
Led by the club sponsor, Megan Springs,
“It is for the Family Life Center in El Dorado,” Springs said. “They provide immediate emergency support for women, men and children.”
The fundraiser ended Feb 5.
