After four years as the athletic director, Josh Ybarra is taking on a new role becoming the assistant principal. The change comes after years of balancing long hours and responsibilities that extended beyond the school day.
“This position is a lot,” Ybarra said. “It takes up a lot of time, especially outside of the school day.”
After nearly 20 years as a player, coach and athletic director, Ybarra’s background in athletics played a major role in preparing him for this transition.
“I have developed strong communication, discipline and organizational skills,” Ybarra said.
He plans to use the same leadership style, just more focused on students and parents, rather than coaches.
“Being fair and equitable and making sure to explain the whole situation to both parties involved is my leadership style,” Ybarra said.
While he is not planning any major changes, he hopes to continue building on the leadership of past administrators.
“I think taking a look at the handbook, really evaluating, seeing what teachers want, and just kind of going from there to help,” Ybarra said.
Looking ahead, he is excited to work more closely with students. He also wants to show that assistant principals can have a positive impact, not just handle discipline.
“I can even go back to my coaching days, and you use the discipline I used on my players,” Ybarra said
