Christmas music played throughout the speakers in downtown Augusta Dec.2. Children ran to pick up the candy thrown from parade floats. Toward the end of the parade, a line formed outside the Augusta Historical Museum for children to meet Santa.
This was Director of Go Augusta Connie Hummel’s first year planning the parade, which has been around for happening for at least 10 years.
“I can say it’s one of my favorite events to organize so far,” Hummel said.
Go Augusta had multiple new events added to the 2025 parade.
“After the parade, Mayor Rawlings is going to turn on the Christmas tree lights down at the roundabout,” Hummel said
The parade was not the only event they had lined up.
Hummel said, children have the opportunity to take pictures with Santa, Mrs.Claus, and Izzy the Reindeer.
The theme for 2025 was a Country Christmas.
“We have a promotions committee that comes up with different ideas, and the committee of board members and just patrons vote on it,” Hummel said.
Instead of the middle school choir singing, Go Augusta has a new source of entertainment.
“The band will be here playing music and marching,” Hummel said.
Multiple businesses opened their doors to host certain activities for the parade.
“We have popcorn and hot chocolate before the parade, that’s sponsored by the Arts Council, and also M and J’s coffee,” Hummel said. “You can make s’mores over at Butler County Outfitters.”
