Shopping suffers during pandemic

Dillons is trying to keep up with the struggle of shoppers during the COVID-19.

Shopping during a pandemic can be carefree for some people, but for others, it is a bigger issue. Customers have started to wear a mask and gloves to stay safe. People are being encouraged to stay inside and stay safe says state mandates. Everyone has been told to only go out for necessities like grocery shopping. Junior Jade Shively works at Dillon’s. due to asthma, she is more at risk and is aware she should be more careful and wear a mask, but still does not.

“With my asthma at work, I try not to think about it because I like helping people get the items they need,” Shively said.

Some people are taking precautions by wearing a full-body suit gloves, and a mask when they go to the store. Others are waking up early to go to the store before it opens and waiting a few minutes so they can get the supplies that they need.

“It’s usually easy to find the things I need, but since coronavirus started, it has been more of a challenge,” Shively said.

It is also hard to find certain items while shopping and a few items like toilet paper and canned foods are limited to buying only one or two per customer.

“It’s hard to find any cleaning supplies at the store,” freshman Samantha Pressnell said. “Everyone is just trying to get what they need to stay safe during the lockdown.”

Pressnell’s family is just starting to wear masks and gloves to the store to stay safe. One day while at the store, Pressnell saw someone with a cart full of bleach. With this pandemic, some people are taking it more seriously than others.

As the number of cases increases people are starting to realize this is a bigger deal than they thought, so they are staying home as much as possible.
