Students from the high school volunteered to make the residents’ experiences even better.
“If I were able to get more posters out to the middle schools and elementary schools, I think we’d have a better outcome,” Ramirez said.
Residents at Lake Point bonded with the volunteers over the few hours.
“It gave students a good opportunity to go and talk to older people and see what it’s like being in a nursing home,” Ramirez said.
Sophomore Sylus Abrahams worked with the residents with a positive attitude.
“It went absolutely fantastic,” Abrahams said. “I love volunteering and would do it again.”
Sophomore Caradee Bolton welcomed the residents with open arms, helping to create a positive environment at Lake Point.
“I like hanging out with my friends,” Bolton said. “I like helping other people just to see them smile.”
Ramirez spent her time gathering decorations with the help of a coworker, collecting donations to fill the room with fun and interactive activities, such as a spooky maze and food trucks.
“It was difficult to make it close to how it used to be,” Ramirez said. “Grabbing the right group of people was important in order to make it functional.”
