As a member of the jazz, concert and marching band, senior Abby Marteney focused on her classes and good grades throughout high school. Marteney performed a few solos for jazz and marching band. She also performed solos for regional solo and small ensembles throughout the years.
“I also made district jazz this last semester; I was pretty proud of that,” Marteney said.
Marteney has constant support from her siblings, sophomore Luke Marteney and junior Molly Marteney and her parents. Outside of school, Marteney often practices her alto saxophone, spends time with friends, practices her makeup and listens to vinyl records.
“I put in a lot of hours practicing my music,” Marteney said. “I want to get my cosmetology license after high school.”
Marteney took her senior photos in a record shop to match her aesthetic and style. She also works on painting and drawing. She practices painting both at home and at school. She participated in multiple art classes throughout high school, including realistic painting.
“I painted a baby picture realistically, and it turned out pretty well,” Marteney said.
While focusing on productivity, she has found methods to help her organize her thoughts and prevent procrastination as much as possible.
“Usually, I’ll make a list, and then over time go back to it and see what I can do,” Marteney said.
As a senior, she does not have a full schedule, which allows her to practice her instrument techniques and focus on homework.
Marteney has found success by accessing the resources available through school and work.
“Reach out and use your resources,” Marteney said. “I feel like so many people can use that to their advantage but don’t.”
