For junior Nancy Lin, life started on the East Coast. She was born in Queens, New York, and lived there until she turned five. At that time, she and her family moved to Colby in western Kansas. After about a year, the Lin family moved to Augusta.
Lin is involved in numerous school activities, including managing the boys basketball team, running in cross country and track. However, she likes cross country the most because she feels most connected to the team.
“I’m probably the most involved in cross country, while in like track, we are in our own circles,” Lin said.
Over the years, she has become closer with her teammates because it has been the same people. Next year, most of her friends who are seniors won’t be here, so she is not looking forward to having to be the senior next.
“I’m getting closer to my friends every single year, but next year is gonna be different since most of my friends are seniors and they are leaving,” Lin said.
Lin’s hobbies outside school are playing Roblox, watching YouTube, running and singing.
Lin is a studious individual when it comes to math, which is her favorite subject because it comes easily and is fun for her.
“I love math, my favorite so far is probably stats,” Lin said. “Something I hate is when I don’t know what I’m doing.”
Being a junior, Lin is focusing on her career. She is interested in actuarial science, which is the calculation of risk. One of the main colleges she is looking at is Drake University, but she plans on applying to all the major colleges in the area.
“I was thinking about just applying to every single top college, but also, I’m trying to pursue actuarial science, and a good college for that that I’ve researched is Drake University,” Lin said.
