It is hard not to mention Drake when talking about the rap genre. Drake has made some iconic songs and collaborated with fellow rapper PartyNextDoor for their newest project, “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U.”
This album is a nice mix of slow R&B vibes and fast-paced rap songs. PartyNextDoor and Drake’s vocals mix well and provide a nice contrast. Oftentimes, Drake and PartyNextDoor join each other on songs, but they go solo for their own songs on the album.
One of these solo songs is my favorite on the album. PartyNextDoor kills it on the song “Deeper,” with his smooth vocals on top of the slow and minimalist beat. This minimalist method is appealing and helps highlight PartyNextDoor’s beautiful vocals.
Another of my favorite songs is one of Drake’s solo songs, “Nokia.” Drake brings an upbeat vibe to this song with his fun and fast vocals on top of a quick beat. This is the most streamed song on the album and has also found its way to TikTok. I attribute this to its multiple catchy parts/choruses that make the song replayable.
However, this album is far from all good; many songs fall short, and a good number of them fail to be memorable. It seems like classic Drake, dropping an album with a few good songs but filling it up with mediocre scrap.
This album has a nice contrast with its types of songs. It quickly changes between styles, and this is where the contrast between Drake and PartyNextDoor thrives.
Overall, this album has some good songs but has no substance outside these few songs, I give it a 6.5/10.
