Test Fest provides a day for each grade to work on individual projects, testing, and college visits. Each grade level has an activity that they participate in during Test Fest day.
Juniors can leave the school with an excused absence to job shadow a person of their choice. Junior Sarah Timberlake aspires to work in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
“It made me sure what I want to do, and now I’m sure I want to work in the NICU,” Timberlake said.
Other grade levels travel to visit different colleges. Seniors go to Butler to explore college options, and sophomores go to Wichita State University (WSU) for a tour.
“I enjoyed walking around and seeing how many buildings there are and how it’s personalized to their education,” sophomore Dakota Hammond said.
Freshman Elizabeth Anderson did not find her Test Fest opportunity taking the ACT helpful.
“I feel like it doesn’t benefit me, some people aren’t going to take the ACT and some colleges don’t take the ACT,” Anderson said.
While the visits and job shadowing have pros and cons, Timberlake had mixed feelings about her experience.
“It wasn’t necessarily sad seeing them so little, but seeing them in incubators that helpless was sad,” Timberlake said.
Hammond had good and bad opinions about her WSU trip
“I think they could’ve given more descriptions of things, but this helped give me more options,” Hammond said.
Test Fest provides a day for all grade levels to get practical life skills. Freshmen take the Pre-ACT, sophomores travel to WSU, juniors job shadow, and seniors travel to Butler for college presentations.
