The usually loud and chaotic science room turns calm and collected as the clock hits 3:15 p.m. and freshman Caleb Christensen walks in to lead a new Bible study.
Christensen carries strong beliefs about having a bible study at school. He feels it will help the behavior of some students and will encourage more people to follow Christ.
“The reason I started it is because I felt a personal conviction to start it. I just feel like the school needs it,” Christensen said. “I am tired of the way that people speak and act; I felt the need to start a revival in the school.”
Science teacher Brian Hallmark opened his classroom for the Bible study to meet after school. Hallmark does not help run the club but likes to listen and learn during their meetings while also giving his thoughts and opinions at certain points.
“I was raised in a Christian home, so my strong belief is that it brings hope to a world where we are all suffering a lot,” Hallmark said. “We all need a little hope.”
Not many have attended this club, but the Bible study members hope to increase attendance. The Bible study members all have beliefs of their own, but they all come together to try and spread the gospel. Freshman Zaiden Slaughter is a member of this club and possesses strong beliefs about Christ.
“From my personal experience when I found Christ, I felt like I had a purpose. I just felt way happier,” Slaughter said. “There is a verse, John 3:16, ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.’”
Numerous people are proud of Christensen for succeeding.
“I do think we need some more leaders and he does a good job at that.” Hallmark said.
Bible study members meet on Tuesdays in room 108 from 3:15 to 4:05
