Counsling high school students is a difficult job, but Janae Mettling stepped up and ready to take on the challenge.
One of Mettling’s passions is helping both students and teachers. Mettling was a teacher before she became a counselor, but the role didn’t fulfill her passion.
“I never felt as a teacher I could really dig deep and get to know the students as well as I can in this role,” Mettling said.
Mettling is passionate about her position as a counselor.
“I love high school counseling because I get to help students discover their dreams for their future and then help them find a path to pursue their passion,” Mettling said.
Mettling’s journey started as a history teacher at Burdeen Jr-Sr High School for grades seven through 12 before she came to Augusta she was a counselor at Andover Central, Flint Hills and Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School’s.
Mettling has four children, three girls and one boy, one daughter in high school, and her other children are in middle school and elementary school. In her free time, she trains for a full marathon, and she intends to attempt Oct. 13 in Wichita.
“I try not to take life too serious and have some fun, too. I definitely try not to take myself too seriously,” Mettling said. “I would say I’m extravert and a people person; I energize by being around people.”
