Celebrities influence food items
Recently, there have been celebrity food items on the menu at certain fast food items including the Charli coffee that was on the Dunkin Donuts menu for $3.19, and the Travis Scott Meal that was on the McDonald’s menu for $6. With celebrities promoting or having their own food items, it shows their influence on food.
“If I see a celebrity eating a certain food, I will probably try it,” freshman Katie Anderson said. “I have tried Charli before since she is on Tik Tok. I probably wouldn’t have tried it if it wasn’t her drink.”
Celebrity influence can make people try foods they may have never tried. The Charli is a cold brew with whole milk and three pumps of caramel. The Travis Scott meal included a quarter pounder with cheese with Travis’s go-to toppings, a medium order of french fries, and a drink.
“I think a lot of times they do it to increase their [influence], or to get more money,” junior Porsha Zweifel said. “I actually enjoyed the Charli, but I think having her name on it made it intriguing.”
With some people intrigued to buy a product just by the celebrity’s name or promotion, can lead to assumptions about the food itself. Ordering food or drink items that celebrity orders can make it more appealing.
“I really did enjoy the Travis Scott burger, honestly I thought it would have tasted like an average McDonald’s cheeseburger,” junior Zane Hennessey said. “I didn’t really see a difference in the burger itself, but I thought it was a good combination.”
The Charli and the Travis Scott meal, it shows what those celebrities order at certain fast food places, so it can be very appealing to people to be like celebrities by ordering the food they get. It can be a way to spread their image or to make some money through the influence they have.
“I only tried the burger because it was based on Travis Scott, and there was a lot of hype about it. I wasn’t impressed or disappointed,” Hennessey said.
